After baking about a 45 dozen cookies on Friday night and Saturday morning, we started around our neighborhood with bags of cookies to take to our neighbors. We took cookies to 24 homes in our neighborhood. It was easy to knock on the doors of the few neighbors that we actually knew, but it was a little scary to go up to a door and not have a clue who lived there. We found everyone to be very receptive. No one turned down our cookies. We found out that one family attends another church in Montgomery that participates in the Family Promise program; we found a family that is a member of a home church; we found two people on our block that work with people that attend Vaughn Park (one lady works at Alfa with Jane Drookas and another works for the State with Gary Mitchell); we found a family that attends the Eastern Meadows Church of Christ; many told us where their church homes were (Evangel Temple, Holy Spirit, Young Meadows). Most of our conversations were very lighthearte d and we laughed and had a great time. At one home, we found a neighbor who is hurting because her husband is very ill with cancer. Another man shared that he had been away from his home and family for about a year but was back home again and things were good. We feel like we know our neighborhood a little better now. We had to start delivering cookies Saturday afternoon because we knew we would not have time to deliver them all on Sunday afternoon. As we walked down the street on Sunday afternoon, a couple of our neighbors stopped us and thanked us for the cookies we brought them on Saturday. As we drive down the street now, we are saying the names of the people in each house so that we won't forget who lives where. We are going to try to make it to all 50 houses in our neighborhood but just couldn't get all of that done in one weekend. Thanks, Sid, for the challenge. It took us out of our comfort zone, but only temporarily. We had a great time.

How cool! I am so impressed that you have decided to go to all 50 houses in your neighborhood. And 45 dozen cookies- what an undertaking! Thanks so much for sharing. That is so encouraging and such a challenge to me to continue meeting and getting to know the people living around us!

That is so encouraging and a good example. I am glad to hear that 50 houses will experience a “taste” of God’s love. Thank you for loving your neighbors and stepping out of your comfort zone.
